FUNDED GRANTS OVERVIEW

Over three million dollars ($3,000,000) in grants have been funded:
|
Ninety (90) Discovery Grants have been awarded
to innovative projects of investigators associated with respected medical
institutions, as seed money for new directions in much-needed research into the
cause and treatment of leukemia and allied cancers.
Subsequently resulting in . . .
Over 130 Million Dollars ($130,000,000) in total grants from other
sources awarded to many of the Discovery Grant projects and their principal
investigators, enabling the continuation of their innovative research.
Ten (10) Endowed Research Fellows Have Been Funded
resulting in twelve (12) studies. The Lauri Strauss Leukemia and Allied Cancer
Research Fellowship Endowment is established and fully funded at Memorial
Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.
Sixteen (16) Grand Round Lectures have been delivered
by physicians of note within the fields of hematology and oncology at Memorial
Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.
Fifty six (56) Marrow Donor Drives have been sponsored
the drives are held in conjunction with blood drives and are organized with the
assistance of The New York Blood Center. Our 1999 drive found a donor-patient
match.
Ten (10) awards toward pain and palliative care service
have been funded
undertaken at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and Calvary Hospital,
Bronx NY.
